Despite the fact that a ton of promotions took place for the Royal Wedding weekend – although I thought it could have been better. It was to be expected that with between 1 and 2 billion people watching this extravaganza world-wide; there would not be all that much interest in playing online bingo. In any case most sites offer pre-buy games, so players just pre-book their tickets and they don’t even need to be there to play. In the UK alone there were 5000 street parties, 24 million individual households tuned into the wedding festivities and 1 million people took to the streets of London. Bingo fans were not rushing for their PC’s.
If bingo operators felt they had lain the best made plans in place to lure royal watchers away from the wedding festivities, this was not to be. Operators expecting a big demand for bingo saw fans definitely burst their bubbles – this was not a bumper bingo weekend. Ah well…the best laid plans of mice and men, often go astray, and its not every day that an heir to the Throne of Great Britain gets married. The next big competition for bingo sites is the summer holidays; if the weather is good, we can expect a migration to the great outdoors, but at least there is still mobile bingo to compensate.
Next year – 2012, the London Olympics takes place which is great for online bingo players, but not so great for operators. Even people who are not sports lovers watch the Olympic Games from cover to cover, so the great thing for bingo players is that sites are going have to come up with bigger and better promotions to draw the crowds back from their flat-screen TV’s. Which by-the-way, they more than likely won while playing online bingo.
