iPhone Gamers Cost UK Businesses Millions? Unlikely!

In a recent report I read; it is supposedly costing UK businesses as much as £800 million, or 57 million lost working hours annually; for iPhone users playing games on their handsets while at work. However, let’s look into this a little more shall we?

The figures quoted said; 55% of Apple iPhone owners admit to playing games on their handsets while at work, with the average being one hour per week. The report went on to say that as there are now more than 2 million iPhones in use – this potentially adds up to the figures quoted above. But, and this is a very big ‘but’, not all UK iPhone users work and not all of them spend an hour a week at work playing – so the results are probably in essence guesswork, after all only 200 iPhone users were surveyed to glean the information for the report! Besides the fact that that one hour per week of iPhone bingo or whatever it is they play, could also be done during lunch, tea or even toilet breaks. There were also some rather interesting facts revealed to suggest this.

72% of iPhone users played games while on Public transport, who can blame them? That commute has never been so much fun! 17% of very brave individuals play games while in the bath and a rather surprising 28% play while in the loo. 68% of users play ‘pay-for-play’ games, so we’ll bet mobile bingo is a popular choice and we already know mobile sports-betting is increasing in popularity massively. 90% of users browse both Facebook and Twitter while on the move and the Office for National Statistics, also revealed in 2011, that 45% of UK mobile phone owners now make use of the Internet while on the go. With numbers like this, it is hardly surprising that more and more mobile gambling apps are being made available, offering more choice of games to play.
