Diana’s Wedding Outfit Carted to Bingo Halls, Railways Stations and Casinos

In a ‘tale of two dresses’ I recently read, that Kate’s wedding gown has been displayed and raised £8m for palace renovations at Buckingham Palace; while our dearly-loved Diana’s dress, has been carted around the world and put on display in Casinos, Museums, and railways stations for bingo and slots players, gamblers and commuters (or anyone else willing to pay the price) to gawp at it. What a sorry fate this appears to be in comparison to Kate’s Buckingham Palace displayed-wedding-dress?!

Both dresses have drawn millions of spectators, admittedly Kate’s with a good deal more class. As Princess Diana’s brother takes her David and Elizabeth Emanuel creation -which electrified millions around the world – on tour in a sad fall from grace. This gown was once almost as iconic as the Princess herself. Currently the dress and 150 artefact’s from her short life are on show at a casino complex in Mashantucket, Connecticut; only a few steps away from a bingo hall, a Dunkin’ Donuts, jangling slot machines and a Fuddruckers hamburger joint!

Diana’s brother – Charles Spencer is the Custodian of the dress and artefact’s and we wonder what he must be thinking by displaying the silk creation, with its trademark twenty-five foot-long train – in such a manner. From the annals of a gross gambling joint, who knows where the dress will go next? It once held a place of near- veneration in the UK national consciousness.

It seems a tragedy that something once so dignified should be displayed at a Foxwoods Casino complex. Nothing could be further removed from this shy-bride’s wedding day, as she nervously, peeked beneath her veils while being escorted on the arm of Earl Spencer; down the aisle of St Paul’s Cathedral. Apparently funds raised are also supposed to be going to Diana’s charities. But out of an estimated £19 million raised – only £1.4 million has been declared as paid over to charitable concerns – over the last 7 years.
