Gala Coral and Gala Bingo has pledge to raise an additional £500k during 2010. That’s an awful lot of money, but they have already demonstrated they are able to raise more money than even they imagined for its charity partner, Sue Ryder Care.
Not only do Gala Coral staff represent the company that has held the highest game of bingo ever in the world, on Everest no less, but they also plan to raise £500,000 this year for the charity. This will bring the total amount of money raised to £1.5m for Sue Ryder Care.
The Chief Executive of Sue Ryder Care, Paul Woodward, said he is sincerely thankful to the continued support offered by Gala Coral and Gala Bingo. He stated that the money raised is important to offer patients end of life care as well as long term care. Patients suffering with dementia, cancer, stroke, Huntington’s Disease, and Multiple Sclerosis are in great need of the services offered through this charity.
Sue Ryder Care was nominated as the group charity through 2010 after an employee vote at Gala Coral in 2008. The generosity of customers and staff since then has been outstanding and unbelievable. Money has been raised in numerous ways including fundraising parties and through collections. Another funding raising trip was to the Everest Base Camp where 25 bingo players climbed up to 17,500 feet to play bingo and set the record for the World’s Highest Game of Bingo. Even though there were significant risks like frostbite, dehydration, deep vein thrombosis, and even altitude sickness, these players overcame it all to mark this record and raise money for this charity.
The Chief Executive of Gala Coral, Dominic Harrison, has been impressed with the fundraising work of customers and staff of Gala Coral. Thankfully Gala Coral and Gala Bingo are continuing its efforts to raise money for this incredibly important charity at a time when donations are lower than usual.
